Puppy Preschool
Puppy Preschool provides a fantastic and important opportunity for puppies to socialise and develop their communication skills. We have all seen the consequences of poor socialisation, dogs that are fearful or aggressive towards other dogs and even people. Puppy preschool provides a safe and non threatening environment for puppies to interact with other dogs and people in a positive way, and in this way helps to avoid the difficulties of raising a dog with poor social skills. If you have children, we also encourage them to attend as these classes provide a safe and comfortable environment for your children to meet other dogs and to ask any questions they may have.
At Nepean and Mountains Animal Hospitals our classes are run by our senior veterinary nurses, and so we are also able to include important health advice and tips. Topics covered during the classes include:
• Basic commands - sit, stay, drop, come;
• Learning and Pack Structure;
• Toilet training;
• Walking on a lead;
• Puppy-proofing your home;
• Biting and Jumping;
• Phobias;
• Barking and Digging;
• Microchipping and desexing;
• Nutrition; and
• Preventative Health Care.
Puppy preschool runs from 7.30pm - 8.30pm on Monday evenings (we will run an addition class on another night of the week also if numbers prevail). We accept puppies from 6 to 18 weeks of age. After this, your puppy will have completed their vaccination course and will be old enough to start dog obedience classes, if desired. Before attending their first class, your puppy has to have a health check, and also has to have their first vaccination certificate sighted to ensure that all puppies are safe to attend the class.
